After SEAG, cycling eyes 2012 London Olympics - INQUIRER.net, Philippine News for Filipinos: "BIGGER, brighter things are coming Philippine cycling's way after its impressive performance in the recent 24th Southeast Asian Games in Thailand where it bagged four gold medals.

The Philippine Sports Commission, through chairman William Ramirez, has expressed willingness to fund the cyclists' training which may lead to a stint in the 2012 London Olympics.

An Olympic slot would require a rider to compete in as many UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) races as possible. Such races are particularly staged in Europe and a few in Australia. UCI points are earned in every race regardless of the cyclist's finish.

But before a rider can qualify for UCI races, he must first join UCI training centers in Europe--specifically at the UCI World Cycling Center in Aigle, Switzerland--Melbourne and Sydney and Japan.

Malaysia and Indonesia, which won four gold medals out of the 11 offered in track, sent their riders to Australia and Switzerland.

Cycling emerged as the second most successful national sports association after swimming which produced eight gold medals.
