Olympic program good up to 2012 - INQUIRER.net, Philippine News for Filipinos: "Though pressed for time, Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman William “Butch” Ramirez isn’t bothered by the delays that have hit the Olympic preparation.
In fact, the PSC chief sees the next eight months before the 2008 Beijing Games as the perfect time to lay down the foundation for a viable long-term program expected to mature in the 2012 London Olympiad.
“Our program will also serve to continue our dream until 2012,” said Ramirez, who is carefully plotting the country’s Olympic battle plan with Philippine Olympic Committee president Jose Cojuangco Jr. and chef de mission Monico Puentevella.
Based on the initial strategy, Ramirez, Cojuangco and Puentevella will convene at least once a week to come up with a set of objectives and implement them.
Once in place, Ramirez said, the strategy for the 2012 Olympics will be culled from the same master plan.
The group will also focus on monitoring the progress of the athletes, who are set to mostly train abroad for the next eight months.
“Even if they say that time is not on our side, our programs, both short-term and long-term, will give us a good fight in Beijing,” said Ramirez. “We are working doubly hard to deliver the first Olympic gold for the country.”
