This may be a tall order for the country, but the president of the Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP) said the association would “leave no stone unturned to have this vision turn into fruition.”
Tom Carrasco, also the Asian Triathlon Confederation senior vice president, said last year’s transfer to the Subic Bay Freeport of the training camp of world-renowned triathlon team TBB (The Bike Boutique) had jumpstarted the Philippines’ quest for an Olympic berth.
The presence of the cutting-edge triathlon camp in Subic allows members of the Philippine team to train alongside world-class triathletes under Team TBB’s top foreign coaches.
Among Team TBB’s top guns are Chrissie Wellington, the 2007 Ironman ladies champion, and Nicola Spirig, winner of last year’s World Cup in Eilat, Israel.
Team TBB produced international qualifiers to the 2008 Beijing Olympics, among them Reinaldo Colucci, a talented triathlete who came from an impoverished neighborhood in Brazil.
